My Story

How I started Duck Cancer

I conquered breast cancer in the fall of 2023. When I was first diagnosed my husband and I would randomly say fuck cancer! Why, you might ask? Because Fuck Cancer! One day I tried texting it to him and auto correct changed it to duck cancer. I thought it would make a good t-shirt design that could bring a smile to patients’ faces when I’d go in for treatment. I feel like humor is important to have during treatment because it helps distract you from the discomfort you might be in, even if it's only for a second. So many people liked my shirts I decided to share them with the world. :-)

My Cancer Story

I found a lump in my breast in 2021 at age 35. The doctor said it was probably a cyst and I was too young for cancer so I didn't have to worry. I would check myself a couple times a year because 3 of my family members have had breast cancer. Any time I felt the lump I just told myself it was normal because that is what the doctor told me. End of 2022, after a friend was diagnosed, I checked myself again and I noticed the lump was a lot bigger. In March of 2023 I saw my doctor and she got me in for a mammogram that week, because she was worried about the size of the lump. A week later I found out it was breast cancer. In May I got a double mastectomy, and they removed the tumor that measured 3 1/2 inches long! In July I received my implants and in August I started radiation treatment. By October I was cancer free! I was having bad side effects from a hormone suppressor shot, so I decided to get my ovaries removed in January 2024. The rest of 2024 was getting used to the hormone blockers and menopause symptoms, which are not fun. So far that is my crazy journey with breast cancer! :-) Moral of the story even if your doctor says there is nothing to worry about get a second opinion!
